Remote Architectural Project Assistant

Cape Town, South Africa (Remote)

We are looking for a detail-oriented Remote Architectural Project Assistant to support our residential construction and project team. This role is designed for someone who can read construction plans, understand project details, and help organize the information needed to move a home construction project from planning into execution.

This is not a licensed architect role. It is a supporting role for someone with architectural, drafting, construction documentation, or residential project coordination experience.

The ideal candidate is precise, organized, and comfortable reviewing plans, tracking details, and helping the team catch missing or unclear information before it causes delays in the field.

Please note this role is fully remote, operating alongside a US design-build company.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan Reading and Review

  • Read and interpret architectural plans, floor plans, elevations, site plans, and construction drawings.
  • Review plans for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Identify missing details, unclear notes, or possible conflicts in the drawings.
  • Flag questions or issues for the project manager, design lead, or construction team.
  • Help confirm that plans include the details needed to support bidding, permitting, scheduling, and construction.

Architectural and Construction Documentation Support

  • Organize project drawings, specifications, notes, and related files.
  • Assist with preparing construction documentation packets for internal use.
  • Help maintain accurate project folders and digital records.
  • Track revisions, updates, and changes to plans or project documents.
  • Support the team in keeping project information clean, current, and easy to access.

Project Coordination Support

  • Help gather the information needed to move residential construction projects forward.
  • Support project managers with administrative and technical project tasks.
  • Assist in organizing details related to scopes of work, materials, vendors, permits, selections, and schedules.
  • Help create or maintain checklists, summaries, and task lists for active projects.
  • Follow up on assigned items to help keep projects moving.

Quality Control and Detail Tracking

  • Review project information carefully to catch small issues early.
  • Compare plans, notes, and project requirements for alignment.
  • Help ensure project details are documented clearly.
  • Identify gaps that could create confusion for contractors, vendors, or internal team members.
  • Support a consistent process for reviewing and organizing project documentation.

Remote Communication

  • Communicate clearly with project managers, designers, construction staff, and other team members.
  • Provide updates on assigned tasks in a timely and organized way.
  • Ask clear questions when plans or project details are incomplete or unclear.
  • Participate in remote meetings as needed.
  • Maintain strong accountability while working independently.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand architectural plans and construction drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic understanding of residential construction.
  • Ability to organize files, drawings, notes, and project documentation.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow processes, meet deadlines, and ask good clarifying questions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education or training in architecture, architectural technology, drafting, construction management, interior design, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting residential construction, remodeling, custom homes, or design-build projects.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, permitting support, estimating support, or project coordination.
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or similar platforms.
  • Prior experience supporting US-based architecture, construction, or homebuilding teams.
  • Ability to identify drawing inconsistencies, missing details, or documentation gaps.

Other Requirements:

  • High-speed fiber internet (minimum 50–100 Mbps).
  • Own laptop/desktop with external monitor.
  • Stable backup power supply.
  • Quality headset with a built-in microphone.
  • Availability: Monday–Friday during U.S. time zones.
